For centuries, scholastic theologians have relied heavily on the “First Cause” argument to argue the structural existence of God. The underlying logic seems entirely commonsensical at first glance: Whatever begins to exist has an external cause of its existence. The universe began to exist. Therefore, the universe has an absolute cause.
But when subjected to strict logical and mathematical analysis, this ancient intellectual trap completely collapses under its own structural weight.
If we choose to conclude that there must be an uncaused “first cause” that sits entirely outside the laws of causation, we are forcing an immediate contradiction. We are asserting that the very first cause is a cause of itself—a premise that completely refutes and violates the foundational rule upon which the entire cosmological argument was built.
To achieve absolute intellectual accuracy and escape this circular reasoning, we must change our baseline approach and reframe the question entirely. We must stop asking “how did the universe begin?” and instead ask a much deeper query: How did existence begin?
This subtle linguistic distinction changes everything. Existence, by definition, means the absolute totality of all that exists—whether it is natural or paranormal, material or immaterial, real or imaginary.
If a deity exists, that deity is an individual entity occupying reality. Therefore, in order for any complex being to perform the dynamic action of physical creation, that being must already be in a state of existence.
If the supposed creator is already there occupying duration, then an overarching framework of existence is already fully operational. If reality is already operational, there is zero structural need for it to be created, because it is already there. You cannot perform the action of creating the existence you are already standing in.
This unyielding law of reality is what I define as The Neutral Cosmological Principle. It agrees that an uncaused, primordial material infrastructure naturally exists as the permanent baseline of reality, but it completely refutes the impressionistic, theological view that this infrastructure is a manipulative, personal “creator.”
Existence is a permanent, eternal, and invariable baseline. An existence with a chronological origin and end will never originate, because its originator—which is also a component part of existence—has not yet originated to cause it.
Reality does not operate on ancient mythologies or the arbitrary “accidents” of popular science. It operates on unchanging, unvarying physical and logical laws. To understand how our classical everyday world unifies with these eternal structures, we must look through the lens of pure logic and step directly into the domain of Panpsychophysics.
